A lector is one who proclaims the Word of God in the worshiping community and brings to life the printed words of Scripture. The lector is a lay person, man or woman, who reads and proclaims the Scripture passages, except the Gospel, during the Liturgy of the Word. This includes readings from the Old Testament, the responsorial psalm, Epistles, or Acts of the Apostles. On occasion, the lector reads the intercessions, although ideally this role belongs to a deacon. Training for this ministry is required and is provided by the Diocese. The Parish offers additional training.
