Caring ministers bring Communion to the homebound and those who are in nursing homes or hospitals. Our parish ministers assist with the spiritual needs of Catholic residents of Highland Care Center (HCC) in Jamaica, NY. On Tuesdays, from September through June (2:15-3:15 PM), parish volunteers assist with Eucharistic services or a Mass celebrated with the residents in the main dining room of HCC. After the 8:30 AM mass on Sundays, Communion is offered for Catholic residents. When the priest visits HCC to celebrate the monthly mass, residents also have an opportunity to celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the sick.

The Christophers (Christ bearers) are a small group of extra ordinary ministers of the Eucharist who visit, pray and bring Communion year round to parishioners who are homebound and in hospitals.

Your parish community is in need of caring Christ-bearers to the sick, homebound and residents of long term care facilities in our parish area. Each one of us who is baptized is called by Jesus to serve our neighbor as he did and taught (Matthew 25:34-40). Can you spare a little time periodically to visit and pray with and bring the Eucharist to parishioners in need?

We welcome volunteers for this ministry from all the different cultural and language groups in our parish. No special experience is necessary. If you are not currently an extra ordinary minister of the Eucharist we will have you trained and certified by the Diocese of Brooklyn if that is necessary.

We also invite family, friends and care givers of parishioners who might benefit from this ministry to give us the name and contact information of the parishioner in need. One of our parish priests will be assigned for the visit when a priest is necessary.

For additional information or if you are interested in serving or know someone in the parish who can be helped by this ministry please contact the parish office. You will be contacted directly by one of our parish ministers.
